Save the Mesa provided grant money to the Land Conservancy for the specific purpose of providing an outdoor classroom for Nipomo High School students to study the ecology of Black Lake Canyon.
The class will be called "Field Study" and will be designed to compliment Lori Dixon's curriculum for her Biology class. Some or all of the items below will be studied in the open-air classroom.
a. Track changes in biodiversity in Black Lake Canyon
b. Monitor water quality
c. Deduce where sources of water pollution originate
d. Surveying plant life
e. Monitor erosion over a period of time
f. Nutrient cycling
g. Interrelationship of the plant community with ecotones.
Some of the above might be tracked for several years. Δ
